WARRINGTON South MP Faisal Rashid will form part of the House of Commons international trade select committee.
Part of the committee’s role will be to oversee the operations of the Department for International Trade and its associated public bodies.
Mr Rashid, who formerly worked at NatWest, is vowing to challenge the Government, when required, and scrutinise ministers responsible for key policies.
He said: “It is very important, with Brexit, to have some great deals in place within the international market.
“My business and banking industry experience will enable me to work on the committee to hold this Government to account and to make sure we don’t go for a hard Brexit.”
Committee positions are due to be finalised this week before the House of Commons formally approves committee membership.
The cross-party group will then begin its work.
