Today in Westminster, Faisal Rashid MP met with Children from the Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE), many of whom had experienced homelessness or lived in temporary housing such as Bed & Breakfasts.
The number of families living in temporary accommodation has more than doubled in 3 years. Over 1/3 of these families lived in B&Bs for longer than 6 weeks, and it is well known that growing up in these environments have a detrimental impact on a child’s development.
CRAE came to parliament to raise awareness of this issue and campaign for better long term, affordable housing for families.
After the event, Faisal said: “I am very grateful to the children and young people for taking the time to share their personal stories so eloquently and so passionately this afternoon, and I absolutely will be supporting this cause moving forwards.
“It is totally unacceptable that so many young people do not have long-term, stable, affordable homes. Every child deserves a happy and safe home, we must do more to work towards this.”
