Faisal Rashid, MP for Warrington South, has congratulated Jonathan Hackett on being the first recipient of the Faisal Rashid MP Future Leader Award. The prize was awarded at this year’s Warrington Youth Awards held at the Peace Centre on Saturday 10th February.
The Warrington Youth Awards celebrate young people from the town in a variety of categories, with a particular focus on people who are helpful, supportive, determined, talented, thoughtful and caring.
This year the Faisal Rashid MP Future Leader Award, which recognises young people in politics, was introduced.
The winner, Jonathan, was referred to Buddy Up with Onside Warrington Youth Club in 2016, which introduced him to the Warrington Youth Parliament. It was through his involvement in the Youth Parliament that his ability to recognise and represent the views of others shone through.
Jonathan was nominated for the award alongside Chris Newton and Megan Kettle.
Faisal Rashid said:
It is a real honour to sponsor the Future Leaders award. Congratulations to the winner Jonathan Hackett and to Chris and Megan for their nominations. All three should be commended for their nominations.
This award honours the fantastic achievements of young people who have a keen interest in politics, and who work hard to make the views of their peers known. I was inspired by Jonathan’s ability to recognise and understand the views and opinions of others. These are great attributes to have.
I am extremely passionate about helping and inspiring young people to achieve their goals. As the MP for Warrington South it is a real privilege to be able to play a part in encouraging and recognising the efforts of our local young people who care about politics.
It is so important for our young people to be engaged in politics to ensure that they have the tools they need to help make informed political choices, which will affect how our country, and indeed our world, is run in the future.
Once again congratulations to Jonathan. I look forward to hearing about his political endeavours in the years to come. And I very much look forward to welcoming him to Parliament in the coming months.
